Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Cancer Treatments and Care

Why do people get cancer?

You must wonder why people get cancer.

There are two simple reasons to explain:

  1. The body lost control of cell growth; it is like a car that keeps accelerating without brakes. This is caused by a gene called oncogene (mutated gene) that encourages overwhelming cell growth. An unwell body fails to monitor and detect therefore fails to repair or eliminate this mutated gene; further, it fails to turn on tumor suppressor gene to suppress overwhelming cells growth.

  2. Once tumors have occurred, the immune system fails to detect and destroy it.

What does your common sense tell you?

Besides working with MD’s and receiving western medicine treatments like surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy and etc. What else can you do to take control of your own health?

As you know all those treatments might be beneficial, but none of them can help to repair and build your body. Does it make sense to you that you can overcome cancer when you are feeling weak and fragile and cannot eat and sleep well, particularly feeling uncentered and stressed?

How can Traditional Chinese Medicine help?

Disease does not exist without a person! The focus is on how the patient feels, not on disease.

TCM pays attention to simple factors such as appetite, sleep quality, pain control, bowel movements, stress, digestive system, and nutrition intake; further, TCM also pays attention to his/her environment, relationship, and state of emotion. They are simple but are the most important factors to understand how the patient feels.

Once the TCM practitioner has a whole picture of the patient, he now will use herbal medicine and acupuncture to take a holistic approach to enhance the patient’s entire body, that includes digestive system, sleep quality, repairing ability, detoxification ability and immunity.

When your body is functioning well and is stronger, you gain natural strength to overcome cancer along with western medical treatments. Clinically, we have witnessed TCM is a great complementary medicine to western medicine.

Our approach:

1. Integrative multi-targeting approaches:

Cancer is not one illness; it is a multiple illness in one. Only a holistic approach can provide a comprehensive care for a cancer patient. We need to look after the whole system of the human being – spirit, mind, and body in order to overcome cancer.

Our clinic will provide treatment to help you to improve the following heath factors:

Sleep quality

Appetite and digestive system

Proper nutritional intake

Regular bowel movements

Body strength

Immunity

Emotional well being

2. Detoxification:

Detoxification is extremely important in cancer treatment. Many treatments focus on improving immunity and body strength, but not detoxification. We are different.

Cancer grows bigger with more toxic waste produced, these metabolic toxic waste from cancer cells continue to cripple our immunity and entire system. It is very difficult to strengthen immunity without moving these toxins out of body.

3. Baby steps:

One of the biggest mistakes that a health care giver makes in term of treating cancer patients is to work under pressure and over-eager to get results. This is understandable because they want to get the result quickly to relieve the cancer patient’s suffering.

It has taken months or years for a person to develop cancer, his/her entire system has malfunctioned for a long time; we cannot perform a miracle or promise a miracle. We need to draw a blueprint of a treatment protocol as to how step by step we can achieve the balance of each heath factor as mentioned above meanwhile to look after their fragile emotional state by explaining what we want to achieve in each step and encouraging them to fight cancer.

Each baby step will build a foundation for the patient and allow him to have power to fight cancer; each step will provide the patient a better quality of life.

Can TCM help me to prevent cancer?

If your common sense tells you that a healthy body (mind, body, and soul) can have a less chance to get cancer… then TCM definitely is for you.

It is because the basic principle of TCM is to maintain the body in harmony and balance. When this goal is achieved, good health and longevity follows.

Canadian Cancer Statistics 2021 was released on November 3, 2021.

This publication is produced through a collaboration between the Canadian Cancer Society, Statistics Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada, with data provided by the provincial and territorial cancer registries. It provides current-year projected estimates of cancer incidence and mortality counts and rates by cancer type, sex, age group and geography. This publication also includes the probability of developing and dying from cancer, incidence and mortality trends over time, and net survival by cancer type, sex, age group, geography and time period.

Highlights include:

• Cancer remains the leading cause of death in Canada. An estimated 2 in 5 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime and about 1 in 4 will die from cancer.

• In 2021, an estimated 229 200 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer and 84 600 will die from cancer.

• Lung, breast, colorectal and prostate cancers are expected to remain the most commonly diagnosed cancers, accounting for 46% of all diagnoses in 2021. Melanoma cancer continues to increase, despite being a highly preventable cancer, while thyroid cancer is decreasing.

• It is expected that the three leading causes of cancer death in 2021 will be lung cancer (25%), colorectal cancer (11%) and pancreatic cancer (7%). The death rate for lung cancer is declining, with the rate for females finally decreasing similarly to the rate for males.

• Current five-year net cancer survival is estimated to be 64% for all cancers combined.
